Emphasising locally produced products on your drinks list can now be seen as a win win.
Not only is there the primary reason of helping out the local trade with a view of sustainability and growth but with a steady momentum of customers wanting to sample what’s on their locations door step there has never been a better time to take the doorstep challenge.
At Tolchards we are seeing a definite surge in popularity of English sparking wine requests as more begin to take centre stage on our customer’s wine lists. With this and our local produce theory we asked Kate Newman and the team from Hive Beach Company to pay a visit to the Bride Valley Vineyard. Kate’s mission was to sample and report back on the English sparkling wine currently being cultivated on the chalky south facing slopes above the beautiful Dorset village of Litton Cheney and find out if local is really the way forward?
The day was a chilly one, way up there on the slopes! It was really interesting to hear about all the methods that go into caring for and maintaining the plants as well as how the surrounding ecosystem supports the vineyard itself.
With the impending opening of the Hive Beach Company’s newest venture, The Club House, we are wanting to establish and maintain local relationships with suppliers in the nearby area and Bride Valley Vineyard is literally on our doorstep. The fact that their product is so exquisite makes them the obvious choice in all regards and we are very excited to offer this as our in house ‘champagne’ as well as be able to tell our customers that we’ve been on site and witnessed the operation first-hand and be able to relay that experience is really special. This is something we hope to achieve with all our suppliers
