Black Rat Cider has built some what of a cult following since being established in March 1988, not only in the UK but currently being the largest selling cider in Japan, Thailand and Scandinavia.
It’s heartland has been the West Country where it has more then held it’s own as an original true cider with an enjoyable full flavour taste. Its these merits which Black Rat Cider always retained but never really shouted about, instead quietly went ahead with its business.
Black Rat offers a satisfying dry taste by comparison to the medium cider crowd which we have seen currently saturated today’s market.
The new re-branding was undertaken by Tolchards own in-house design team.
“At a very early stage of development and planning it became evident that Black Rat Cider was an exceptionally good tasting dry cider. It was to its own testament that it managed to achieve recognition and awards without showing off key strengths. Unfortunately it fell short with its identity and where it deserved to be” commented Design Manager Mark Tipton.
The new branding gives Black Rat Cider the backing, credibility and positioning which it has perhaps lacked up until now.
The overall new logo and accompanying identity moves away from the traditional connotations of what you might have in mind when thinking about a traditional cider brand and takes a step towards the new breed of cider brands that are on the horizon.
